FBI Broadens Washington Shooting Inquiry

Thursday saw, the Federal Bureau of Investigation raided a number of residences as it widened its inquiry into a shooting in the nation's capital that occurred on Wednesday, resulting in one National Guard soldier deceased and another in serious condition.

Suspect's Past and Home Raided

The search included a home in the state of Washington linked to the alleged gunman, Afghan citizen Rahmanullah Lakanwal, who investigators revealed was part of a CIA-supported unit in the Afghan theater before entering the America in 2021 under a resettlement program.

Agents seized multiple electronic devices from the home, including mobile phones, notebook computers, and iPads, and interviewed his relatives, the Bureau's chief Patel stated during a media update.

Guard Member Member Sarah Beckstrom Succumbs After Shooting

Subsequently on Thursday, the President announced that Beckstrom, one of the guardsmen injured in Washington DC, had passed away.

She, aged 20, was one of two members of the national guard shot; the other member, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four, is still in critical condition, per the President.

Washington Alleged Gunman Had Agency Connections, Authorities State

The alleged gunman was part of CIA-supported forces during the American conflict in Afghanistan, the CIA has verified.

The alleged gunman, identified as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, 29, came to the United States in 2021 under an resettlement initiative that gave certain Afghan nationals who had served the US government immigration documents to the US.

The probe is ongoing as investigators gather information and interview those involved.
