Manchester City Jewish House of Worship Assault Individual Re-arrested at Airport
A man initially detained in relation to the Manchester City synagogue attack has been re-arrested at the city's airport.
Two individuals lost their lives when Jihad Al-Shamie, thirty-five, carried out a car and knife assault at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue on 2 October.
Counter Terrorism Policing North West reported the 30-year-old man was first detained on suspicion of the commission, preparation and instigation of terrorist activities.
Authorities clarified he was detained again at Manchester Airport on suspicion of withholding information in violation of Section 38B of the 2000 Terrorism Act. He has since been granted bail with certain restrictions.
Law enforcement added they "are confident there is no continuing danger to the general public following the incident the previous week."
Six individuals were detained in the aftermath of the incident, with two—a man and a woman—taken into custody in the following hours and then released on Sunday evening.
The following day, detectives announced they had been granted extra time to interrogate the other four individuals, who were also detained on "suspected commission, preparation and instigation of terrorist acts."
On Wednesday, authorities stated they too were set to be released but emphasized that "did not mean the probe was complete."
Also on that day, authorities disclosed that the suspect placed an emergency call in which he swore loyalty to the group identifying as Islamic State.
Melvin Cravitz, sixty-six, and fifty-three-year-old Adrian Daulby lost their lives in the attack on Middleton Road in the area.
The victim suffered a gunshot wound after armed officers arrived at the scene and fatally shot the attacker fatally.
A officer's bullet also hit a different individual, Yoni Finlay, who is recovering in hospital after an operation.
