We'll Crown the Best Title of the Gaming Era: Semi-Finals
These last 48 hours have been nothing short of dramatic. This past Monday, we marked the five-year anniversary of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X with a competition to determine the best first-party game of this console generation. We presented eight PlayStation 5 titles and eight Xbox Series X games to compete against each other, culminating in a championship round where the top game from each console would battle it out. We've witnessed some incredibly close calls in the first two rounds, especially the extremely tight polls from the previous day. At this point, it's time to crown the leading PlayStation and Xbox titles before Thursday’s final battle.
The PS5 Side
For PlayStation 5, we have the Kratos-killer, Astro Bot. Maybe it should be no surprise given that it took home the top prize at last year’s Game Awards, but its win against God of War Ragnarök feels like a true upset. However, to reach the championship, it'll need to defeat the MVP of the PS5 generation: the acclaimed developer. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 had a smooth path to the semi-finals, defeating Ghost of Yōtei and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (another title from the same studio!) to secure a spot in the semi-finals. Can Spidey topple a home-grown Sony mascot, or is he fated to become a chibi cameo in the upcoming Astro Bot title?
The Xbox Series X Side
The Xbox Series X side has been even juicier. Emerging victorious from a diverse lineup of contenders is Forza Horizon 5. It's a big victory for the open-world driving game already, proving that a niche category title earns to be on the equal footing as traditional jump-and-run games and cinematic action-adventure games. Its final obstacle on the way to the championship is a major challenge, though. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has shown itself as a crowd favorite, defeating acclaimed titles like Pentiment and Hi-Fi Rush. Can it beat a larger-scale title from an established IP that's synonymous with Xbox itself? Should anyone manage this feat, it's probably Indy.
Cast your votes to decide the top PlayStation and Xbox titles of this generation, and come back tomorrow to see who will be competing for the grand prize in the championship round!
